Introduction
At present, there are tens of millions of visually impaired people in China, ranking first in the world. However, barrier-free facilities in some public places are either incomplete or occupied, guide dogs are difficult to train and few in number, which cannot meet the needs of this group. Therefore, we hope to design a pair of glasses that can be used together with the blind crutch which are voice controlled to assist them in living and traveling. Hopefully with our glasses and blind crutch, the visually impaired group do not need to rely on public facilities or guardians to accompany them to travel, and can live independently.
Glasses Model
Glasses, as the main part, can interact with users through keys and voice. The three shortcut keys located on the top right side respectively control taking pictures and scanning——content reading and location identification, telephone answering and dialing, and time reminding. The touchpad located on the right side allows users to adjust the glasses mode by sliding. At the same time, a camera suspended in front of the glasses can intelligently scan and identify commodities, characters, buildings, etc. The glasses is always ready to accept user’s voice instructions.
Blind Crutch Model
Blind crutch is a necessary tool for visually impaired people to travel. In order to cooperate with intelligent glasses to assist users to travel independently, we have added a sensing area to scan the road conditions 360 degrees in all directions and remind users of road information in time through the voice of glasses. At the same time, the blind crutch together with glasses can assist users in accurately identifying directions. In addition, we have designed a panic button for the blind crutch. By long pressing panic button, glasses will inform the emergency contact person in time to call for help.
