Introduction

Every fan of Harry Potter has been waiting for their letter from Hogwarts since 12 years old, wishing that one day, they can be a part of the wizarding world. As fans of Harry Potter, in order to make up for the regret of missing the owl that might carry our invitation, we want to construct a wizarding world through the experience of virtual reality. Based on classical scenes and spells, we hope to enable the familiar magical world we have dreamed up since childhood with a sense of wonder. Our immersive experience is generally divided into six scenes: starting interface, wand shop, college selection, library, common room and chamber.

Techniques

The immersive experience was developed based on Unity3D engine and programmed with C#. We connect HTC VIVE devices with the help of Steam VR plugin. We aim to use only one handle to imitate the use of wand. Based on collision detection and co-routine function, players can press PAD to enable wand, use TRIGGER to cast magic spell and use GRIP to select items. To build the scenes, we used particle systems such as flame, fireworks and use the cloth system in unity to create the floating college flags. Together with the original sound tracks and sound clips of magic spells from the movie, we try to restore every moments of magic.
